Amazon has reached a settlement with the US competition authority FTC, which means that the e-commerce giant will pay a total of 2.5 billion dollars in compensation and fines.

The company is accused of having misled customers into registering as members of the Prime service and then made it difficult to cancel the subscription.

The amount is divided into $1 billion in fines and $1.5 billion in compensation to customers, in total equivalent to approximately 24 billion kronor.

Amazon does not admit in the settlement that the company has done anything wrong.

Prime is partly a streaming service for movies and series, partly a way to get faster shipping and discounts from online shopping.

The FTC initiated an investigation into Amazon's subscription service in 2021 and sued the company in 2023.
