The American e-commerce giant Amazon will reduce the workforce by up to 30,000 people, reports the news agency Reuters with reference to three informed sources.

The layoffs are to be initiated via email as early as Tuesday, two days before the company is to submit its report for the third quarter after the stock exchange closes.

A spokesperson for Amazon declines to comment on the information.

In late 2022, Amazon implemented a cutback where approximately 27,000 jobs disappeared.

The stated goal now, as then, is to reduce costs and cut into a workforce that became oversized in connection with the increased demand during the pandemic.

Today, the company has approximately 350,000 permanent employees, but including more casual forms of employment, around 1.5 million people work globally for Amazon.
