The Dow Jones industrial average rose 2.5 percent, the broad-based S&P 500 index rose 2 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 2.2 percent.
It was a record for the Dow, which closed above 50,000 points for the first time.
According to analysts, the recent decline in large technology companies has made their shares more attractive.
Several of them climbed significantly, including Nvidia and industry peer Broadcom - up 7.9 and 7.1 percent, respectively.
But Amazon, down 5.6 percent, was hit hard after a poorly received quarterly report.
For the week as a whole, the Dow rose 2.5 percent. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 1.8 percent and the S&P 500 fell 0.1 percent.
