Almgren got a final time of 7:50.66 and was 18 hundredths from bronze.
The big favorite Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Norway, won gold and took his third consecutive double victory with a win also on 1,500 meters.
And after the race, Almgren praised his Scandinavian competitor.
Beating him in a championship is basically impossible, he says and continues to claim that Ingebrigtsen is more superior than the Swedish pole vault star Armand "Mondo" Duplantis is in pole vault.
”Mondo” can have problems with a pole or the technique not sitting fully sometimes. Jakob is just better than everyone else on pure raw strength. If he doesn't fall, is not injured or sick, there's no one who can beat him on these distances.
Despite the disappointing fourth place – where he was sprinted down by the Frenchman Azeddine Habz in the battle for bronze – Almgren was not too downbeat after the race about his own performance.
So, I had the feeling before that today I could win a medal, not lose one. It was roughly in line with what I should have run, but of course, it's no fun coming fourth, he says to SVT.
The Brit George Mills came second.
