It was the neighbors of the cottage owner who made the discovery.
They saw a pile of papers that the neighbors were about to throw away, took a glance and could decipher the name Alfred Nobel, says Thomas Rydén, appraiser at Craaford auctions, to the magazine.
After asking for advice, the couple who owned the cottage were asked to turn to the auction firm in Lund.
Thomas Rydén turned to the Nobel Foundation in his turn.
The documents, which are from 1864 and 1867, disappeared in connection with an exhibition in the 1970s. How they ended up in the summer cottage in Blekinge is unclear.
Alfred Nobel's patent documents were, incidentally, not the only unexpected find in the pile that was to be thrown away from the summer cottage. There was also what is believed to be a textile sample from the explorer Salomon August Andrée's air balloon.
CORRECTED: In an earlier version, an error occurred. Correct is that the documents did not disappear in connection with the exhibition at the Technical Museum in Stockholm.
