Ten different qualifying tournaments for the third golf major were played on Monday, but Alex Norén had no luck with him in Ohio.
Norén went the two rounds of 70 and 72 strokes (total –2). Six US Open spots were at stake and Norén had needed to be three strokes better to reach the playoffs for the sixth and final spot.
Just a few weeks ago, Alex Norén went in the final leading ball in the latest major, the PGA Championship. After a tough finishing day, Norén ended up in 17th place, eight strokes behind world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Later this week, the 42-year-old Swede will get a last chance to reach the US Open, but then a top placement is required. Norén, ranked 73rd in the world, must climb to the top 60 on the world ranking to get to play the major at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh.
Currently, only two Swedes are clear for the US Open. In addition to world number eight Ludvig Åberg, also Joakim Lagergren, who managed to snatch a spot in one of the qualifiers that was decided in May.
