Ahmed al-Ahmed has been praised around the world since he overpowered and disarmed one of the perpetrators during the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney. On Tuesday, he was visited in his hospital bed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

"It was a great honour to meet Ahmed al-Ahmed. He is a true Australian hero. He is very humble," the Prime Minister said after the meeting, according to ABC News .

Ahmed al-Ahmed, a 43-year-old greengrocer, was at Bondi Beach to spend time with friends and family and was about to buy himself a coffee when two perpetrators opened fire on a Jewish festival at the site.

He decided to act and his courage is an inspiration to all Australians, Albanese continues.

A clip showing al-Ahmed throwing himself at the attacker has gone viral and a fundraiser has been launched in support of the hero, who was himself shot in the attack. He is currently being treated in hospital for his injuries and will undergo another operation on Wednesday.

In addition to the collection, which amounts to many millions of kronor, an American billionaire has donated 99,999 Australian dollars, equivalent to over half a million kronor, to al-Ahmed.
