An important issue for the SD in the Tidö cooperation has been converting permanent residence permits into temporary ones, even retroactively. In an interview with TT in June, Jimmie Åkesson downplayed the issue and said that it was “not a big issue.”
“Not reasonable”
Now, however, he says that he has "hard to see" that it would not be implemented if the Tidö parties win the election, and that he expects new negotiations between the parties on how it can happen.
"We have given quite a few people permanent residency, a kind of citizenship, but without the obligations that come with citizenship. I don't think that's reasonable," he says.
The proposal has been criticized by a number of consultation bodies, including several authorities who have pointed out that it means that the state is departing from the administrative law principle that a favorable administrative decision may not be revoked to the detriment of individuals.
“Been against”
Jimmie Åkesson, however, does not give much credit to that criticism.
My impression is that "the usual suspects" among the consultation bodies have been against almost everything we have done during this term of office, he says.
Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson has said that her party will not agree to the proposal. But according to Jimmie Åkesson, the four Tidö parties have agreed to “go in that direction.”
