The national coordinator will be appointed fairly soon, says Jimmie Åkesson.
The proposal is outlined in the Tidö Agreement between the SD and the ruling parties. And it is one of several proposals that are being highlighted in the SD leader's spring speech on Långholmen in central Stockholm.
"A Sweden Democratic food basket"
Åkesson hopes for thousands of return cases in the future – with the radical increase in return allowances proposed by the government. But also with more foreign citizens convicted of serious crimes being deported.
In his speech, Åkesson claims – with reference to anecdotal price information – that the Tidö government has seen to it that gasoline and diesel prices have fallen radically.
The SD is preparing a new proposal to push down prices on basic goods in food stores. He calls it "a Sweden Democratic food basket".
With a starting point in Swedish food traditions, but also with a preparedness mindset in the back of his head, he says to the hundreds of supporters listening to the speech on site.
The work on the proposal is ongoing, according to Åkesson.
It's not entirely clear. We're currently sorting out what should be included in this basket – where we simply lower the VAT and maybe completely exempt certain basic goods from VAT for a period, he says to TT after the speech.
It should be food items that people buy and want to buy so that it makes a point, he adds.
"It will be decided on election day"
With 16 months left until the next parliamentary election, the SD is currently struggling with declining opinion polls in several measurements.
It's clear that when you enter an election campaign, you want to have the best possible starting position. But at the same time, I've been around long enough to know that it's decided on election day, says Åkesson.
If the SD had been an opposition party that could have conducted opposition politics, we might have been bigger in the opinion polls. But then we wouldn't have been able to get any politics through. So it would have been worse, he adds.
After the 2026 election, the SD will not be content with acting as a supporting party in the Riksdag, as they do now, according to Åkesson:
After the next election, we will either be a governing party or an opposition party.
He does not want to speculate about whether it's time to hand over to someone else after 20 years as SD leader. But he says there are plenty of successors in the SD leadership the day it becomes relevant:
I have many crown princes and crown princesses.
