When asked directly by American media whether he was considering an attack, President Trump replied:
I guess I can say I'm considering it.
The words are a repetition of earlier implied threats of an attack and come at a time of increasingly tense relations between the United States and Iran. On Thursday, Trump said that Iran would have a maximum of 15 days to reach an agreement with the United States.
Abbas Araghchi told MSNBC that an Iranian proposal for a nuclear energy deal could be handed over to U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff "within two or three days."
Iran's U.N. Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani, for his part, said that Iran wants the U.N. to "ensure that the U.S. ceases its illegal threats." On Thursday, he submitted a letter to U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres with the request after Trump announced that the U.S. may need to use British military bases in the event of a possible attack on Iran.
"It would be catastrophic for the region and pose a serious threat to international peace and security," he wrote.
According to The Times, Britain has denied the United States use of its military bases for an offensive war against Iran.
