The must-win match ended in another loss to Denmark. This means Sweden is now out of contention for a World Cup spot.
Instead, an uncertain playoff awaits this fall.
"Somewhere it's a huge disappointment that we didn't make it all the way. But we have to analyze it and learn from what happened in this World Cup qualifier," says Stina Blackstenius.
Sweden had full control of the match. They needed at least a draw, preferably a win, in Odense on Friday evening. But after a lackluster first half, there was only one Swedish goal in the match - compared to two Danish ones.
"We had a talk at halftime about needing to get up a few levels. I think we do, but it's clear that it feels disappointing in such an important match that we don't manage to get it out in the first half," says Blackstenius.
After five matches in the World Cup qualifiers, Sweden has still only scored five goals. It's hard to pinpoint why, according to Stina Blackstenius.
If you look at Denmark at home, we are good enough to win that game, but still leave with zero points. We simply have to capitalize on the chances we create.
