Möregårdh after the gold: "Rather talk ping-pong"

After the final victory against Anton Källberg, Truls Möregårdh became the first male player to win five consecutive Swedish Championship titles. The 23-year-old did not want to talk about the conflict with the Table Tennis Association after the historic gold in Uppsala. What has been said has been said and I would rather talk about table tennis, says Truls Möregårdh.

The Jerring Award winner's dispute with the table tennis federation is about, among other things, his desire to have his brother Malte Möregårdh as match coach at World Championship tournaments instead of the coaches appointed by the federation.

After the conflict became known last weekend, it was long uncertain whether Möregårdh would play the Swedish Championship, but he started and made history. A handful of players have managed to win four consecutive singles championships – now the 23-year-old is alone with five consecutive Swedish Championship gold medals.

Yes, you get goosebumps. It feels like it's my tournament and I feel secure with my family and my brother Malte on the bench, says Truls Möregårdh, who has a total of six Swedish Championship gold medals in singles.

The double Olympic silver medalist from this summer defeated national team teammate Anton Källberg – who was part of the team that finished second in Paris – with 4–2 in the final.

On the women's side, it was also a final showdown between two national team stars. There, Linda Bergström was the strongest – it was a 4–2 set victory against Stina Källberg.
