Halushchenko is being dismissed while a corruption investigation is ongoing, according to Ukrainian media.
"I believe that a suspension during the investigation is civilized and correct," writes Herman Halushjchenko himself on Facebook.
On Monday, it was announced that Ukraine's anti-corruption agency Nabu had carried out 70 raids on the country's energy sector, following a 15-month investigation. Halushchenko was a former energy minister.
Nabu says it has uncovered a "high-level criminal organization" in which bribes were linked to contracts awarded by the nuclear power company Energoatom. Around the equivalent of 100 million US dollars has passed through a money laundering scheme, according to Nabu.
However, it is not specified whether it is precisely that investigation that is the reason for Halushchenko's suspension.
His portfolio will be taken over by Ljudmyla Suhak, who until now has been Deputy Minister of Justice with responsibility for European integration.
