It took 118 years, but Norway has now surpassed Sweden in the all-time Olympic gold medal count.

Wednesday's gold medal by Jens Lurås Oftebro in the Nordic combined means that Norway currently has 220 gold medals compared to 219 for Sweden, notes the newspaper VG.

Norway actually passed Sweden already on Tuesday, when biathlete Johan-Olav Botn won the distance race, but shortly after Sweden was able to equalize when siblings Rasmus and Isabella Wranås won in curling.

The last time Norway led the gold tally was after the 1904 Summer Olympics. That lead then held until the 1908 London Olympics, when Sweden passed them and maintained the lead for 118 years, helped by a number of gold medals at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.

So far at these Olympics, Norway has won seven gold medals compared to Sweden's three.
