In his second tournament on the PGA tour for 2025, at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, the 25-year-old from Eslöv showed off a brilliant form with nine strokes under par (63 strokes).
Every time you shoot such a low score, it's clear that it's a good day on the golf course, says Ludvig Åberg at a press conference.
"Super good round"
It became four birdies on the first five holes for Åberg, who started the round on hole 10 on the north course. On his eighth hole of the day, he rolled in a putt for an eagle on a par 5 hole.
I think it was a super good round. I came out quite hot with some birdies in the beginning, after that it got a bit calmer, says Åberg.
Then came another birdie on the tenth hole of the day, before the day's only bogey came on the following hole.
In the lead
He bounced back, however. The Swedish world number six finished with three birdies on his last five holes. The result gives Åberg a lead after the first round with two strokes, ahead of Americans Danny Walker and Hayden Springer.
The playing field is initially divided into two different courses – Torrey Pines north and south courses. Now Åberg is waiting for play on the south course on Thursday.
Even if the north course is statistically a bit easier than the south, there are still quite a few challenges. You still need to hit the fairway, otherwise it gets thick rough, says the Swede.
Åberg started the season by becoming tied fifth in a major tournament in Hawaii at the beginning of January.
