During his nearly two years as a pro, Ludvig Åberg has only missed the qualifying limit four times – and never in two tournaments in a row.
In all cases until now.
The 25-year-old from Eslöv has had two tournament-free weeks after missing the "cut" in The Players Championship in March.
After Thursday's opening round in San Antonio, Texas, Åberg was tied for 43rd on 71 strokes, one under par.
It went worse on the second round. Åberg made his first bogey on his 12th hole. On the next hole, he got a short birdie putt – which he missed from just over a meter. Even on the next hole, the Swedish golf star burned a putt from just over a meter, resulting in the round's second bogey.
Åberg came in on 73 strokes and he is a total par after two rounds. It was enough for a tied 70th place when Åberg had finished playing on Friday evening, Swedish time.
Only the 65 best will get to play on over the weekend. One who is guaranteed to be there is Henrik Norlander, who played the second round on 67 strokes and is –5 total. Norlander is provisionally tied for ninth.
The game continues in San Antonio until after midnight, Swedish time.
For Ludvig Åberg, it looks like he will be heading to Augusta a little earlier than planned. Next Thursday, the US Masters tournament begins, where Åberg was sensationally second in his major debut last year.
It was not least brilliant putting that saw to it that Åberg was fighting for victory. Now he has barely a week to find the same feeling on the greens again.
