During his nearly two years as a pro, Ludvig Åberg has only missed the qualifying limit four times – and never in two tournaments in a row.
Until now, that is.
The 25-year-old from Eslöv has had two tournament-free weeks after missing the "cut" in The Players Championship in March.
After Thursday's opening round in San Antonio, Texas, Åberg was tied for 43rd on 71 strokes, one under par.
It went worse on the second round. Åberg made his first bogey on his 12th hole. On the next hole, he got a short birdie putt – which he missed from just over a meter. He also burned a putt from just over a meter on the next hole, resulting in the round's second bogey.
Åberg came in on 73 strokes. It was only enough for a tied 80th place and two strokes from making the qualifying limit.
Henrik Norlander went the second round on 67 strokes and is –5 total, tied for 13th place. Jesper Svensson (tied for 52nd on –2) will also continue to play.
Brian Harman, USA, has a four-stroke lead on –12.
Next Thursday, the US Masters will begin at Augusta National, the tournament where Åberg finished sensationally second in his major debut last year.
It was not least brilliant putting that saw to it that Åberg fought for victory. Now he has barely a week to find the same feeling on the greens again.
