Last Sunday, Ludvig Åberg took his second PGA tour title when he won Tiger Woods' tournament on the Torrey Pines course outside San Diego in California. Afterwards, the 25-year-old from Eslöv posed together with his 49-year-old childhood idol and the trophy.
I have that picture of us saved on my phone and will probably look at it a lot, says Åberg at a digital press conference on Friday.
Will you develop it?
I don't think I'll develop it. But I have it as a heart in my phone.
Met in the gym
It was only the second time Åberg met the American golf legend who has won 82 times on the PGA tour and is a 15-time major winner. He admits that he was nervous.
It was very cool. It means a lot and he means a lot to me. I've geeked out on all his videos (on the internet). It's cool to create a little relationship, says the Swede.
They met for the first time in January when both played in TGL, golf's indoor venture, which Woods is also involved in as an organizer. Then they met briefly in the gym. After the victory in the Genesis Invitational, there was more interaction.
Praises Stenson
It seems like he was happy for my sake, which was cool, says Ludvig Åberg.
Besides Woods, who didn't play the tournament himself because his mother had recently passed away, Åberg has another role model.
It was Tiger and Henrik Stenson. He has done fantastically much for Swedish golf. The two were the big guys for me when I grew up.
