The 25-year-old Swede was third going into Sunday's fourth round. Åberg then made eight birdies and only two bogeys, resulting in a round of –6. Overall, Ludvig Åberg finished 12 strokes under par and thus took home the win against some of the world's best players. He secured the victory with a birdie putt of just over two meters on the 18th hole.

It feels really good, he says at a press conference after the tournament at Torrey Pines.

It's hard to win on the PGA Tour, it has some of the world's best players. It feels reassuring that I can go from where I was a few weeks ago to winning today, it's a quick turnaround.

Bedridden

As recently as last Tuesday, Ludvig Åberg was still bedridden after the stomach flu that hit him at the end of January.

I couldn't start hitting balls again until Wednesday, and go to the gym on Thursday, says the Swede.

Last week, I was more or less in survival mode. So to come here and win is really special.

Initially, he also seemed affected by his problems and finished the first round in a tie for 25th place. But then Åberg played himself up significantly and made an incredible comeback – which included a hole-in-one in the third round, his first in tournament play.

A really cool moment, said the Swede about his dream hit.

Will celebrate with a hamburger

The first prize in the tour tournament The Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods, is four million dollars – equivalent to around 42 million kronor. The title is Ludvig Åberg's second on the PGA Tour.

The million-dollar win will be celebrated with a hamburger, in an attempt to regain the weight he lost due to the stomach flu.

This is my last day on the West Coast for a while, so I think I'll take the chance to eat at In-N-Out, he says with a laugh.

Second, one stroke behind Åberg, came American Maverick McNealy. World number one Scottie Scheffler was three strokes behind the Swede and shared third place with another American, Patrick Rodgers.

With the win, Ludvig Åberg climbs to first place on the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup ranking and on the world ranking, he rises from sixth to fourth place.
