Ludvig Åberg: "I didn't get many hours of sleep"

With a birdie putt on the last hole, Ludvig Åberg secured his second title on the PGA tour. A little over a day later, a new competition awaited – indoors and in simulator golf with new victories. I didn't get many hours of sleep, says the 25-year-old.

The Swedish golf star secured the victory and over 42 million kronor in the major tournament at the classic Torrey Pines outside San Diego on Sunday afternoon.

About a day later, Åberg was on site in Palm Beach, Florida. There, double matches in golf's indoor venture TGL awaited.

It's been crazy, says Ludvig Åberg, with a coffee cup in hand, in Disney+ about the last 24 hours.

We got home to Florida pretty late last night, I didn't get many hours of sleep.

Åberg now lives in Jacksonville, Florida, and says he went to bed at 3:30 am. No problem adjusting, however – he says he still has the competitive feeling in his body.

It wasn't that long ago I played the last hole and tried to make a birdie, says the Swedish world number four with a smile.

In the first TGL match, Åberg and his two teammates Min Woo Lee and Wyndham Clark in team The Bay won 5–3. It was the team's second win out of two possible after The Bay also won the league's premiere match at the beginning of January.

Åberg's team also won Monday's second match, against Boston, including Rory McIlroy, with 5–4. A strong contributing factor was Åberg's putt on nearly two meters on the 14th hole, which meant equalizing, ahead of the final holes.

McIlroy is, together with Tiger Woods, the initiator of the indoor tournament.

The matches are decided indoors in a 23,000 square meter large indoor arena in Palm Beach, Florida, with room for 1,500 spectators.

The long shots are hit just like in regular simulator golf – except that the screen is over 320 square meters large. Additionally, the long shots are hit from real grass in different lengths for fairway and rough.

The players wear technical equipment. Before each shot, they receive information about distance and simulated wind conditions.

When the players have just under 50 meters left, they hit real shots against an artificial green, which can rotate 360 degrees to create different angles and slopes. Even bunker shots – both short and long – take place in real sand.

The indoor league with a total of six teams concludes on March 4. The playoffs are decided on March 17–18 (semifinals) and March 24–25 (final).
