Leading indexes on the New York Stock Exchange moved only marginally or not at all on Friday.

Fewer shares than usual changed hands on the first day of trading after the short Christmas closure - turnover amounted to approximately 50 percent of the average for the past 30 days.

The broad S&P 500 index closed unchanged, but the index still recorded its best week in a month (up 1.4 percent). The Dow Jones industrial average also did not move from Wednesday, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 0.1 percent.

Most index-heavy large companies fell, but Nvidia rose 1.0 percent after the announcement that the chip giant is buying AI startup Groq for nearly 200 billion kronor.

Bond trading was also relatively quiet. The yield on the ten-year government bond closed at 4.13 percent - unchanged from Wednesday.

The dollar exchange rate was down to the lowest level recorded since June.

The Stockholm Stock Exchange was closed on Friday, as were most other stock exchanges in Europe.
