The 24-year-old was arrested in his absence on June 19 and is also suspected of serious weapons offenses. He has previously been convicted of, among other things, minor narcotics offenses and gross negligence in traffic, but has not been convicted of any more serious crimes. He has also been suspected of attempted murder, but the investigation against him in that case was closed in 2021.
The man's defender Martin Larsson said during the detention hearing that he had not had any contact with his client.
To death
Salwan Momika was shot to death in his apartment in Södertälje in January this year. At the time of the murder, he was broadcasting live on Tiktok. He went out onto the balcony to smoke and then shots were heard, according to witnesses who followed the broadcast.
The investigation has shown that the perpetrator entered through one of the neighboring doors. Then up onto the roof, then he made his way down to the balcony and into the apartment when Momika went out to smoke, said prosecutor Rasmus Öman during the hearing, which was partly held behind closed doors.
No other state
Prosecutor Öman does not want to speculate about any motive, but says that in the preliminary investigation, there are no signs that another state is involved.
It is currently unclear exactly where he is, but the tracks lead to Syria, his home country, says Öman to TT.
The next step will be to request that he be internationally wanted.
Öman also confirms that no murder weapon has been found, but it is assumed that the perpetrator got rid of it along the escape route.
Momika became internationally known for his Koran burnings – which sparked outrage in large parts of the Muslim world – and therefore had a very large threat against him.
