Late in the evening of July 9 last year, a 16-year-old boy was shot to death near a pedestrian tunnel in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm. Shortly thereafter, two teenage boys were arrested, who were prosecuted in February.
The prosecution also concerned an attempted murder of another person in a shooting around a football field in Bagarmossen two days before the murder, as well as plans to murder a man in his 20s.
One of the boys, who was 17 years old at the time, was sentenced in April to prison for eight years and eleven months for, among other things, murder, attempted murder, and preparation for murder. Now the shooter, who has turned 18, is also convicted in the court of appeal for the murder and attempted murder.
However, he is acquitted of the charge of preparation for murder and the sentence is reduced slightly, to seven years and ten months in prison.
The other boy, a 15-year-old, was sentenced to closed youth care for two years and three months for aiding and abetting the crimes. He is also acquitted now on the point of preparation for murder and the sentence is set to two years of closed youth care.
The fatal shooting was considered part of a conflict between criminal groups, but it has not emerged that the shot 16-year-old had any connection to gang crime. After the murder, which received extensive media attention, hundreds of people gathered to honor the boy and demonstrate against violence.
