Police have opened a preliminary investigation into murder after an 18-year-old woman was reported missing in Uddevalla. Clothes believed to belong to the woman have been found, according to police.

The woman is a resident of the Gothenburg area, and police told TT that they have a picture of what she did in the days before her disappearance. The woman was last seen on January 6 in central Uddevalla.

"We are taking this very seriously and are devoting very large resources. We would welcome any tips," says Martin Öhman, police chief in Västra Fyrbodal.

The police have declared a special incident. The Armed Forces and Missing People are involved in the search operation. A murder investigation has been opened to broaden the search operation and expand the police's powers in the search, according to the police.

"I want to be clear that nothing concrete has emerged that indicates that she has been the victim of a crime," says Öhman.

Öhman says he cannot go into how the discussions have proceeded, but says that murder has been deemed to be the most relevant crime classification.

In an area of terrain south of Uddevalla, members of the public have found clothing.

"We consider it likely that they belong to her," says Öhman.

Additional resources have been called in and the search operation is continuing. Police are also knocking on doors in the area and conducting interviews. Large areas will be hand-shoveled to ensure nothing is hidden under the snow, according to police.

"There are various objects that we are looking at and will send for examination," says Öhman, who does not want to go into what the objects are.
