The 18-year-old is being held for preparation for a terrorist offense, participation in a terrorist organization, a serious crime, and public incitement to terrorism.
"It's about violence-promoting Islamism," Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the National Security Unit Henrik Olin told TT when asked what type of terrorist organization it involved.
International cooperation
Henrik Olin does not want to go into too many details at this stage of the investigation. But he says that "after monitoring the 18-year-old for a while" on Monday, they reached a point where the prosecutor and the Security Service decided to take action, whereupon the 18-year-old was arrested. It was, among other things, an international police cooperation that led to this.
Olin believes that there is a risk that the 18-year-old will abscond and hinder the criminal investigation, for example by removing evidence. There is also a risk that he will continue his criminal activities. Therefore, the man is being detained under restrictions.
Participated remotely
The 18-year-old suspect participated in the detention hearing remotely with his defense attorney by his side. He was wearing a white T-shirt and looked into the camera as the prosecutor read out the charges.
The man denies preparing for a terrorist crime, but admits to participating in a terrorist organization and publicly calling for terrorism, according to his defense attorney, Maria Powers.
The rest of the detention hearings then took place behind closed doors.
The suspected crimes, which are being investigated by Säpo, are believed to have been committed in Halmstad - some starting last year.
There are currently no other suspects, according to the prosecutor.
Charges must be filed no later than May 13.
