Two bombs were dropped on Tabayin in central Myanmar on Friday evening. One of the bombs hit a popular teahouse – an important social gathering place in Myanmar. A total of 18 people were killed in the attack.
Several consistent reports from the scene, including a rescue worker and local official, confirm the incident, which also injured 20 people, according to AFP.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the ruling military junta is the only force in the country that has aircraft.
Airstrikes of this kind are common in Myanmar, which has been torn apart by several parallel civil wars for decades. What the warring groups have in common is that they are fighting against the military junta that has seized power in the country by force and does not allow free elections.
