Finnfors power plant museum is closed now, on 3 November 2026. The venue says it will welcome visitors back in June 2027. The museum is housed in the old Finnfors power station, built between 1906 and 1908 at Finnforsfallet, where the river drops 19 metres. It was the first power station on the Skellefte River.

The station remains intact, with generators, turbines and instruments. Its Jugendstil design was drawn by architect Axel Rudolf Bergman. Inside, visitors can follow the route water took through a 50-metre inlet pipe, which was made by hand-riveting its sections. The station’s workshop displays where workers made tools and spare parts. The museum also covers oil recovery from the machinery and the iron stove used to heat part of the building when the machines were stopped in winter.

A marble control panel stands upstairs, where the machine operator recorded how the equipment was running and how much it produced every half-hour. He gave instructions to workers on the floor through a speaking tube. The museum also has a photo exhibition about people who lived and worked at Finnforsfallet. A fifth generator was added in 1912, briefly making the station the largest north of the Dalälven river. The last generator was renovated and returned to service in 2023.
