The Stockholm Public Library is closed this week and will remain shut during renovation until early 2028, according to the library’s website. It closed on 20 June 2024. Visitors cannot go inside during this period, so the building is not a stop for borrowing books or seeing its interior now. The city library directs visitors to its replacement location, Stadsbiblioteket Spelbomskan, at Odengatan 59, while the work continues.

The reason to keep the original building on a future Stockholm itinerary is its architecture. Visit Stockholm identifies it as the work of architect Gunnar Asplund and an example of Swedish Grace. The tourism site singles out the facade and says entering offers a view of the interior. It also reports that Condé Nast Traveler has listed the library among the world’s most beautiful libraries. Those details describe what visitors can see when the doors reopen, but in November 2026 the original library remains closed. Check the library’s website for reopening information before planning a later visit.
