Sörmlandsleden runs just south of Stockholm and passes through Nynäshamn, Södertälje, Eskilstuna, Nyköping, Oxelösund and Trosa. Its 92 sections cross forests, lakes and coastlines, and include places connected with culture and history. Choose a short walk or link sections for a hike lasting several days. Wind shelters along the route provide places to stay overnight, and geocaching is another activity on the trail.
Some paths are adjusted for people with disabilities. Conditions and access can vary by section, so check the trail’s current reports before setting out. A notice posted on 8 October says work to clear around old trees is due to start in late October or early November in Alby nature reserve, on the section between Skogshyddan and Alby outdoor recreation centre. Tyresö municipality expects the work, which will involve forestry machinery near the trail, to last a couple of months. Signs are due to be put up in the area.
Another trail notice says a fence being built between the trail and Lundsjön may make passage difficult temporarily; the landowner expected to install a gate within 14 days of the 15 October report. The route’s varied length means a visit may take a few hours or several days, depending on the sections you choose. Check current notices and follow any signs around work areas.
