Nyckelviken combines woodland paths and open grounds with Stora Nyckelviken, a manor built in the 1740s as a summer home for Herman Petersen, a director at the Swedish East India Company. The manor has a café where visitors can fika, eat or buy ice cream. There are also grassy picnic areas and a heated shelter for colder days.
The farm has cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, sheep and pigs, which are out in their fields during the day. Children can play in Hebbe, a converted old granary with a pretend kitchen and other play features. On Saturdays and Sundays, children weighing no more than 25 kilos can ride ponies. The display garden has summer flowers, herbs, fruit trees and a play area; its layout follows the pattern from the 18th century. Nacka’s Local Heritage Museum shows how people lived in the past and what life on the farm was like.
For walking, the yellow-marked exercise trail is 5.1 kilometres, mostly on flat bark paths, with a steep hill and a long flight of stairs. The blue trail is 5.7 kilometres and more demanding. Reflectors mark it in both directions, and a flashlight is needed to follow it in the dark. The grounds also have walking and cycling paths and an outdoor gym. The city holds events at Christmas and Valborg, and its Midsummer celebration is the area’s largest annual event.
