Historical Walks offers free audio guides for exploring Stockholm on a phone. The project is a collaboration between the City Museum and Medieval Museum, according to Visit Stockholm. Routes follow subjects including medieval life in Gamla stan, prehistory in Järva, women’s history on Södermalm and author Maria Sandel on Kungsholmen. Choose a walk and start at the point listed for it.

Visit Stockholm says the English-language selection is limited but growing. The website lists three walks in English: The Rats in Old Town, Medieval Times in Old Town, and Skogskyrkogården. The Rats route is marked for children and takes 30 minutes over 0.8 kilometres. Medieval Times starts at Riksplan on Helgeandsholmen and takes 45 minutes over 1.5 kilometres. The Skogskyrkogården walk starts at the cemetery’s main entrance on Sockenvägen and takes 80 minutes over 3.2 kilometres.

Across the listed walks, distances range from 0.3 to 3.2 kilometres and walking times from 15 to 80 minutes. The guides are free to use; the material does not give opening hours.
