At Dalarö’s Fiskarhamnen, Anders Franzénmuseet occupies a former salt store beside a diving bell built in a 17th-century style. Master pilot Frans Ludvig Öhman built the store in 1865, when salt was used to preserve fish. It later became a warehouse. In 1912, it was due to be demolished, but merchant Fredrik Norberg bought it and used it to sell petrol and lubricating oil.
Anders Franzén, a research engineer at KTH, spent summers as a boy with his parents just above the harbor. He bought the building in 1950 for wreck research. After restoring it, he also used it for overnight stays. In the room, visitors can see keepsakes from his travels around the world, the bunk where he slept and a small kitchenette. Franzén compiled a map of notable wrecks, and his work led to the location of the royal ship Vasa.
The diving bell was made using 17th-century drawings as a model and used for test dives on the royal ship Kronan. Franzén gave the building to a foundation in 1988; the local heritage association took responsibility in 2003. The association received the bell and installed it beside the building in summer 2008.
