Kumla Church is a small Romanesque limestone church in Östergötland. Its rectangular nave and narrower apse have kept much of their medieval layout. The church was built in the first half of the 13th century and is one of the county’s smallest medieval churches.
Inside, the 15th-century altarpiece, made in Lübeck, stands above the altar. Its upper row shows the coronation of Mary between two saints; below are the apostles Andrew, Peter, Paul and John. A carved medieval piscina is set into the apse wall beside the altar. The pulpit rests on the lower part of a 13th-century limestone baptismal font, decorated with leaf shapes.
The building also records later changes. The medieval sacristy was altered in 1696. In 1818, the upper part of the medieval west tower was demolished, and the 15th-century nave vaults were replaced with a wooden barrel vault. Since the 1950s, the church bells have hung in a separate bell tower. The church website gives no visitor hours or admission price.
