Saint Lawrence Church was built around 1300 and is Falkenberg’s oldest building. It is also the town’s only surviving building from the medieval period. Its history includes a period as a school gymnasium: after a new church opened in 1892, the old building was fitted with wall bars and ropes and was also used for lectures, films and a shooting range. It was restored as a church in the 1920s.

Inside, look for the 18th-century vaulted wooden ceiling, painted in Rococo style by the German master Linkmaier. The ceiling paintings include angels illustrating the Lord’s Prayer and scenes from the Book of Revelation. The altar wall has paintings of Moses and Aaron, and its central image was later altered to show King David. Other objects include a 16th-century baptismal font and a votive ship given in 1974. Falkenberg artist Tore Heby made the pulpit and altar rail in the 1970s. The church is used for services, music devotions, baptisms, weddings and funerals. Its website does not give a visit duration or a schedule for visitors.
