Tiveden National Park is a forest area shaped by the ice age. Its trails pass through dense forest, over rock and into narrow valleys. The park lies between the cultural regions around Lakes Vänern and Vättern.
Large boulder fields define the area. Some blocks, carried here by the ice, rise to ten metres. Hikers can follow trails through the boulders and see the views from Trollkyrkobergen. Vitsand has a bathing beach, and the park also contains caves and wilderness lakes.
The park's forests are left to develop into natural forest. Tiveden is one of a few larger areas in southern Sweden with remnants of very old pine forest shaped by fire. The park's website says biodiversity is high in these old pine forest remains. Conservation burns can help pine trees and reduce spruce, maintaining the park's forest character. The mix of forest, rock and steep fissure valleys gives the park its terrain.
