Suspicious woman prevented fraud
On Wednesday, a woman in her 70s from the outskirts of Linköping contacted the police about a suspected ongoing fraud. She had been contacted by a suspected fraudster who claimed that her name had been used in a rental car deal involving a car that had not been returned, and that her gold now needed to be secured. The woman became suspicious, so the police were able to be there when the fraudster arrived to collect the valuables. Another woman in Linköping was the victim of a completed fraud using a similar modus operandi. In this case too, a suspect was able to be arrested thanks to a good description.
The fraudsters are now suspected of aggravated fraud.
Despite this, the police warn that further cases of fraud targeting older people may occur. Remember: The police, banks or other financial companies will never come to your home wanting to see your gold or borrow your bank card. Look after your loved ones by talking to one another. Together we are strong and can make this type of financial crime more difficult.
