The night before Wednesday, the police were alerted that a person was in distress in the Ultevis Nature Reserve, Jokkmokk.
Guard commanders decided to initiate a mountain rescue operation with support from the LSO (Act on Protection against Accidents).
Harsh weather overnight made it impossible for helicopters to start searching for the person immediately. As soon as the weather allowed, helicopters were ordered out. This happened on Wednesday morning. The helicopter was able to locate a man. When the man was found, he was deceased. The man's next of kin have been notified. The police suspect no crime in connection with the incident at present.
