Elderly woman targeted for fraud.

A 70-year-old woman is said to have received an SMS from someone who claimed to be from "the bank". She was then contacted by scammers and someone later visited her. She is said to have lost her bank card and a larger sum of money. A report of fraud will be written.

How a telephone scam can go

Telephone scams occur when someone calls and tries to trick you into revealing sensitive information such as codes or card details, or to log in to your bank. When you log in, you also let the scammer in. In most cases, you are contacted by phone or SMS by a scammer who claims something has happened and wants you to identify yourself to help solve the problem.

Telephone scams can lead to theft at home

The scammer may claim that someone needs to come to your home to secure your valuables or codes. Instead, you are robbed of money, valuables, and credit cards.

How you can protect yourself

If you are unexpectedly contacted by phone call, SMS, or email, stop, do not act, hang up the phone. Then ask someone you trust - a neighbor, a friend, a family member for advice.

Never identify yourself with a bank ID or reveal your codes when someone else contacts you.

Do not let an unknown person into your home. Serious companies, organizations, and authorities will never come to your home to collect your cash, jewelry, or other valuables.

Do not be afraid to appear suspicious or unpleasant, dare to end the call.

If you are a victim of a scam, contact the police and if it is ongoing, call 112, otherwise call 114 14.
