Several cases of fraud attempts have occurred during the afternoon in the local police district of Karlstad.
The approach is similar in all cases. A person pretends to call from the police, which is not true, and tells that there have been several break-ins in the vicinity of the address that is being called. Then the caller offers to secure valuable items, preferably jewelry, so that they are not stolen, by conducting a home visit and then picking up, for example, jewelry.
This procedure, that the police would call private individuals to then visit to take care of valuable items, is not true. The police do not perform any actions like these.
Criminal prevention measures are carried out by the police, but then in the form of information campaigns and through other operational implementations that prevent crimes from being committed.
If you are called by an unknown person who asks you if you have valuable items at home or other sensitive information such as bank information, you are advised to hang up the phone. Do not let an unknown person into your home, always require identification/service ID if someone claims to come from a company or authority.
If you are a victim of a crime or an attempt to commit a crime, always contact the police.
