Now begins the period when it can be dangerous for animals and children in parked cars.

Every year, the police receive many calls about animals and children who are left in a parked car and where it can be a danger to them due to the heat. A summer-hot vehicle can quickly turn into a death trap even if you leave a gap in the window for ventilation or park the car in the shade.

The outdoor temperature combined with humidity determines how quickly a confined person or animal gets heatstroke and dies. The higher the humidity, the faster the overheating occurs.

If you see a child or an animal in a hot car, do the following:

Check if the car door is open.
Call 112 if you consider the situation to be urgent, otherwise call 114 14.
Note the registration number and time.
Note how ventilation and air supply are met.
In an emergency: Smash the window. If possible, choose a window that is not near the child or animal to avoid glass shards.

If you see a confined animal or person showing signs of overheating, you have the right to, in order to save the animal or person, smash the window with the support of the emergency provision in 24 Chapter 4 Section of the Penal Code.

Emergency exists, among other things, when danger threatens life, health or property. The person who takes the rescue action must be prepared to identify themselves to the called police or the car owner/driver.

Call first, if possible. The police may have a patrol nearby that can help with the assessment.
