Airbags, wheels, steering wheels, and entire instrument panels – this is just a few examples of car parts that are attractive to thieves. Now the police are seeing an increase in thefts of mainly steering wheels from BMW cars in the police region of Bergslagen, specifically in Örebro county.

Here are a few tips to avoid being stolen from:

Park your car in a well-lit place or in a garage.
Make sure the car has actually been locked before you leave it. This so that you are not exposed to a so-called jamming signal.
Store car keys in a safe place, do not leave them right next to the front door or in the jacket pocket.
If you have a keyless locking system (key-less), store the keys in a specially padded key pouch or in a metal container. Then you prevent someone from picking up the key signal at a so-called "relay attack".
Complete your car with a approved steering wheel lock and make sure it covers the airbag. Even cars with keyless locking systems can be completed with an approved steering wheel lock. This makes it so that the thief cannot drive the car at electronic key copying.
