June 6 13.25, Scam, Norrbotten County

The police have received two reports of fraud/fraud attempts against women in their 70s in Kalix municipality today.

In both cases, the women received a text message from someone claiming to be from Mabi car rentals, stating that the rental cars rented in the women's names were not returned on time. The women were urged to call a specified phone number to resolve the situation.

In one case, the woman was transferred to her bank's security department and was advised to download the Anydesk program to her computer, allowing the scammer to remotely control her computer and transfer a large sum of money from her accounts. A report of fraud has been filed.

In the other case, the woman was contacted by a claimed IT department that persuaded her to scan QR codes via bank ID. However, the woman did not lose any money. A report of attempted fraud has been filed.

The police urge the public not to call phone numbers provided in such text messages, as they often lead to scammers.

Telephone scams (vishing) affect many people. Here's how you can protect yourself:

1. Hang up

If someone calls you and you become unsure, you should end the call. This applies regardless of whether the person claims to be a relative or someone from your bank, a company, or an authority.

Prepare something to say to end the call quickly, or hang up directly. You don't have to be polite.

2. Do not log in

Never identify yourself with bank ID and never give out codes from your bank card or your payment card if someone asks for it.

Serious companies, organizations, and authorities never contact you and ask you to log in or give out personal information in this way.

Never agree to let someone remotely control your computer or phone using a program like Anydesk.

3. Don't trust the caller

The scammer may try to stress you by saying you are about to lose money or that a family member has been harmed.

Don't trust the person calling, even if they seem credible and have personal information about you.

If you suspect you have been a victim of telephone scams, you should file a police report and contact your bank. There are two ways to file a police report: call the police on 114 14 or visit a police station.

Call 112 if the crime is happening now, or if the police are needed quickly.
