Police initiated a pursuit of a vehicle that deviated from a police check on E18 in the Hemdal area in Västerås municipality at 09:45 and a large number of police patrols participated in the operation.

During the pursuit, the vehicle was driven recklessly and at high speeds. 

The fleeing vehicle also collided with one of the public's vehicles, which then ended up in a ditch. No reports of personal injuries.

The pursuit was concluded after the patrol encountered the relevant vehicle on a smaller road just north of Ängsön.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was detained and taken to an interrogation and blood sampling. An application was made regarding gross negligence in traffic, gross drunk driving under the influence of narcotics, fleeing the accident scene, and not stopping at a police signal.

The man's driver's license was confiscated.
