In the spring, there was a wave of thefts and scams targeting the elderly with a specific approach. A woman knocked on the door with a box or bag of baked goods and tricked her way into the home of the elderly person. Then, either she or her accomplice who slipped in afterwards, stole valuable items from the home.

Now, two cases have occurred in Region Öst in the past few days. On Wednesday, a woman tried to break into an elderly woman's home in Strängnäs. However, she stood her ground and placed her walker in the way so that the woman could not get in, and she was not robbed.

On Friday, an elderly woman in Vetlanda was targeted, and unfortunately, they managed to get hold of valuable items. At present, the police have no arrested person and no suspect. However, these crimes are prioritized because they target a particularly vulnerable group, and the cases will be investigated further. At present, the police do not know if these two events, which occurred geographically far apart, are connected.

The police now want to warn that it seems that this brazen approach is on its way back and that there is a risk that more people will be targeted.

To the target group, mainly elderly people: Do not open the door to unknown people and try not to let anyone in, no matter how insistent they are.
