Under Monday evening the police received two alarms of fraud against the elderly in Ödeshög.
In both cases, someone has called up elderly women and claimed to be a police officer. The person has stated that there have been many break-ins in the area, and that the police should therefore confiscate valuable items.
A 95-year-old woman was asked to gather her jewelry, but was not robbed. A report is being filed for attempted fraud.
In the second case, a 90-year-old woman was called in a similar manner and later visited by a man who took her jewelry and 2,000 kronor in cash. A report is being filed for fraud and serious theft.
The scammer who calls claims to be calling from the police and asks questions about valuable items. The police will never call such a call, and if someone is called, the message is to hang up the phone and report to the police. Call 112 if it is an ongoing attempt.
On polisen.se, there is a lot of information about physical vishing, and here is a simple list of how you can protect yourself.
Police tips – how to protect yourself from scams
* Hang up the phone. If you are unsure who is calling, you should end the call.
* Do not log in. Do not log in with bank-id if someone calls and asks you to. Do not leave bank card or credit card codes either.
* Never let an unknown person into your home. Close the door if you feel uneasy. The police never go to someone's home to pick up bank and/or credit cards or other valuable items. If someone contacts you with such a request, it is a scammer.
* Never leave identification, bank cards or your code to anyone else.
* Contact the police. Call 112 if the crime is in progress. If the crime is not in progress, call 114 14.
