The victims are mainly single women, many of whom are in their 90s. The modus operandi is similar, but at the same time varying: The fraudster makes contact via phone and poses as someone - it can be a crafts firm, an electronics chain, home care, a bank, or an authority. The purpose can be to prepare access to the elderly person's home, or to persuade him or her to hand over valuable items to a person who will visit the victim's home. The events that the police have become aware of, concern both attempted fraud and completed frauds.

If you are contacted by someone who claims that something has happened that requires you to hand over valuable items or log in to your bank: Hang up the phone and contact the police.
