The police have been working on a case involving an elderly person who was robbed of money during the evening. The affected man initially received a call where the person stated they wanted to inspect an alarm.

The call was followed by a visit where the perpetrator also stated they worked with alarms. At the visit, the person took the affected man's bank card, and money was stolen from the account.

No person has been arrested as a suspect.

Scams targeting mainly elderly people are a problem. It involves both scams carried out via the phone, but also so-called physical vishing where perpetrators appear at the home.

The police want to urge caution when it comes to contacts with people you do not know. Below are tips on how you can protect yourself.

If someone calls and you do not know them, hang up the phone! Dare to be unpleasant.

Do not let anyone into your home.

If you receive a call from someone who claims to be from a bank or other company that wants to help you with various types of services, or orders that you know you have not made: hang up and call the police.

Never call the phone number you are encouraged to via SMS. For example, someone may claim that you have bought goods or services and that you should call a number if this is not the case. Do not do it! Instead, call the company's central switchboard on the number you find yourself, and check with them if the information is correct.

In some cases, the scammers claim to be from authorities such as the police and state that they are on site to pick up valuable items to protect against break-ins. This is a scam! The police will never come to your home and pick up your valuable items.
