The police handled several cases of elder abuse in Piteå municipality yesterday, Saturday, in Norrfjärden and Rosvik. A man has sought out properties where elderly people live and felt door handles to steal. In at least one case, a serious theft was completed. The man was found by home care staff at an address and left the scene.

At present, two reports have been made – one concerning a serious theft and one concerning an attempt at a serious theft – but the police assess it as likely that more crimes have been committed and that the man will continue with the same method in Norrbotten or down towards Västerbotten.

The police urge the public to be vigilant and to keep outer doors locked. If you are affected: call 112 immediately! If you discover that you have previously been affected: report to the police!
