The police have received five reports of attempted fraud during the afternoon/evening. All the complainants are men from Umeå born in the 1950s.

The frauds are of the type "sms-barn". The complainants have received SMS where someone claims to be their child. "The child"/i.e. the scammer states in the SMS that they have a new phone number since their previous mobile phone has broken down. In connection with this, they say they need financial help, for example help to pay an unpaid invoice.

Be suspicious if you receive this type of SMS. Never follow up on requests to send money if you are not completely sure that the person is who they claim to be.
