In one of the cases, the call recipient was connected to a voice saying that the person’s ID card had been used for “suspicious activity”. 

The police know that scams are currently taking place in which the call recipient hears an automated computer-generated voice. Among other things, it may say that there is a warrant for your arrest and that you are wanted. The police will never contact you with an automated voice in English. Hang up and do not trust the caller.
