Fake text messages announcing deaths – police investigate
During the day, police in the Bergslagen region have received three reports from people who received fake text messages that appear to come from SOS Alarm.
The text messages contain false death notifications, for example claims that a close relative has died in an accident.
At present, the police have not identified any connection between those affected. The incidents are being investigated.
“We take this very seriously. Even though the information in the text messages is false, it can cause great distress and insecurity among the recipients and their relatives,” says Sophia Jiglind, the police’s press spokesperson in the Bergslagen region.
The police urge anyone who has received this type of text message to file a report. Anyone worried about a relative should first try to contact them directly to verify the information.
